February will be a big month for Jack Davenport fans.

Not only is the second season of Smash premiering on Feb. 5, but the release date for the Mother’s Milk DVD has been changed to Feb. 4! (You can preorder it now at http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00A8MBR0M/ref=pe_198051_33885921_email_ti )

Here’s some more exciting news: You don’t have to wait until February to see some new Jack. The first hour of Smash’s two-hour season 2 premiere will be available online starting this Monday, Jan. 14! You’ll be able to watch it at NBC.com, Hulu, iTunes, Amazon, Xbox and On Demand.

But wait, there’s more! The Smash season 1 DVD released in the U.S. this week. If you’re planning to buy it, you might consider doing so at Target stores. There is a bonus disk exclusive only to the Smash DVDs sold at Target. And that bonus DVD happens to include a lengthy interview with our very own you-know-who.

Also, you can pre-order the Mother’s Milk DVD at http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mothers-Milk-DVD/dp/B00A8MBR0M/ref=sr_1_1?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1355949885&sr=1-1

Although amazon.co.uk lists the DVD as Region 2, we are assured by the Mother’s Milk PR folks that the DVD is REGION 0 PAL, which means it can be played on any PAL system. This includes some countries outside Region 2. Check this site to see if your country uses the PAL system: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:PAL-NTSC-SECAM.svg. You’re not in these countries? Check to see if your computer will play PAL DVDs. (But don’t ask me how to do that!)

The going rate for the Mother’s Milk DVD is £9.00, and the release date is April 2. And amazon.co.uk promises that if their listed price decreases between the time you place your order and the release date, you’ll be charged the lowest price. What a deal!

Also according to the film’s PR folks, they don’t have the rights to release the movie in cinemas outside the UK and Ireland. The film is still making the rounds in these countries – it premiered in London in November and has since opened in Cork, Dublin, Brighton and Sheffield. There are rumors that it might open in Dorset in February. So if you’re out and about in these areas, you might be able to catch the movie on the big screen.

Credit to Frank for digging out this new feature on IMDB . I’m happy to announce that I beat him, yay! This victory is all the sweeter after my embarassing defeat elsewhere; you know you’re a fannish failure if you play a trivia quiz about one of your favourite actors with a dog and the dog wins. Then again, I’m a dog as well…. eh, enough with the canine navel-gazing, try your luck and see if you can beat Frank and me (shouldn’t be too difficult!)

For now, we’re leaving you with some pictures from “Mother’s Milk”, which really exists, no, seriously, no kiddin’, will be released on 9 November in the UK and promises to be awesome. If you like the pictures below, you can get more on MOTHER’S MILK @ FAKEBOOK.

Why, yes, we think he’s smokin’.

This just in: Christian Borle will be responsible for the music in “Smash”.

AFTERELTON asks a just question:

HOW GAY IS NBC’S “SMASH”?

And while it’s not often that AfterElton praises the inclusion of a homophobic character, here, Dererk, to be played by Flash Forward’s Jack Davenport, in this case, we’re happy to see it.

Having Derek be a straight homophobic choreographer not only gives Tom a foil with which to spar, thus giving him more potential storylines, it also deals with the fact that homophobia is still very much a part of American society. And having it be a supposedly sophisticated New Yorker, rather than a stereotypical rural or conservative character behave homophobically, gives it a fresh spin.

Fully agree with Michael Jensen there. It all depends on how this will be written, of course.
And anybody who knows fandom will prepare for a bazillion of “Derek coming out of the closet” fics…

Next: a new picture of “The Key Man” has surfaced!

Thanks to iVillage, there’s a little more information on what “Smash” is going to be all about:

“WILL NBC’S ‘SMASH’ BE ABLE TO COMPETE WITH ‘GLEE’?”

Each season, the characters will take on a different musical, with opening night arriving in the season finale. But don’t expect Les Miserables or Rent — the musicals will be all original.

My thoughts on Glee are similar to a vampire’s thoughts on garlic, but the concept of ‘Smash’ sounds interesting. I like the “new musical every season” bit; this should prevent the show from inflicting endlessly waltzed-out story archs on the audience. Bring on the Smash, I say!

From Smash to smashing – Jack Davenport and Hugo Weaving in one movie!Woohoo!

The screen dates/times for “The Key Man” at the SXSW Festival are now official:
