Good news for Jack Davenport fans — there’s a chance that he could be back on our TV screens on a regular basis again soon.

He has landed a co-starring role on a new pilot for ABC called Sea of Fire. Here are the details we know so far.

ABC CANCELS “FLASHFORWARD”

This doesn’t come out of the blue, it had to be expected: FlashForward as a concept was great, but the execution wasn’t. Add to that the show-killing mid-series hiatus… too little was done too late. The show was over-hyped and couldn’t live up to the expectations; there was not enough time and substance for a genuine, dedicated fanbase to be built.

But still, FlashForward was a nice piece of television, and I don’t think we’ll have to worry about the future of any of the actors. I wish everybody involved with the production the best of luck. I bet we’ll see Jack Davenport soon again in either a different series or on the big screen.
Though we really miss him here and wouldn’t mind if he’d return. And bring John Cho with him.

"Don't worry - I'll buy two ocarinas, and we'll make millions with busking."

“FlashForward” is back on FIVE, but unfortunately, the rates a pulling a Titanic. I hope nobody will click “eject” after “ff”… but on the plus side, there are more interviews with Jack than ever. Or it’s the same interview, re-interpreted by 20 different people: what would be your ff, what’s it like working on US television, will Lloyd hook up with Olivia, do you know how ff will end, what’s the average speed of a swallow…
(Can’t somebody ask him about his thoughts on Arséne Wenger, for a change?)

DFW.COM: Q + A WITH JACK DAVENPORT

During the great global blackout on ABC’s FlashForward, most of the show’s characters got sneak peaks at life-changing moments they’re apparently destined to experience. But cast member Jack Davenport suspects, if he had a real-life flashforward, all he would see is 2 minutes, 17 seconds of the same mundane stuff he does every day. “I would probably find myself either walking the dog, changing my son’s diaper or doing both at the same time,” he says. “A lot of life is routine and I’m sure my future would be just as prosaic.”

Sounds better than my flashforward: cat jumps on table. Cat jumps on desk. Cat changes locks on front door.

A WORD FROM SPARKY

I know that “Good Boy, Sparky!” is taking ages to load at times. The reason is actually a positive one – with the start of FlashForward’s second half of series one, interest in Jack has once again gone through the roof. Heavy traffic = tailback. This blog here is hosted on WordPress, which has its own servers, so it’s not affected. I’m very sorry about any trouble this causes, but unfortunately, there’s not much I can do. Friends, Romans, Netizens – I ask for your your forgiveness.

In more positive news: “Good Boy, Sparky!” has now had over 500’000 visitors! So that’s either the same five fans visiting the site 100’000 x each, or Jack Davenport is more popular than we thought. Neat!

Also:

I don’t buy paparazzi shots.
I don’t want to see paparazzi shots.
I seriously can’t be arsed.

Tons of interviews,
big and small –
it’s impossible to track them all.
If you try, I wish you luck,
Go to Twitter and enter “Jack”…

Hey, I never claimed to be Shakespeare.

While the world prepares for the return of “FlashForward”, exclusive interviews with the cast are popping up all over the internet. I decided to pick only one and let you all use your own google-fu.
It goes without saying that I went for the one where the interviewer starts his article with the words “I’ll admit, I’m not a huge fan of TV romance. It’s a guy thing.” A pity, that – somebody who can write a sentence like “The Lloyd and Olivia ship has been anchored in the bay of forbidden love for sometime on the show…” is a natural for writing romance.

Anyway, please click the link below for article and videos:

TVOvermind – Interview with Jack Davenport and Sonya Walger

If the videos shouldn’t load for you (either the site is overwhelmed with traffic or has a Firefox ad-blocken allergy), you can try the following site, which also offers a summary of the interviews in Spanish – and the videos load without problem.

“FlashFoward is back” sounds odd, but is true. The second half of season 2 kicks off tonight, 16th March on ABC with a re-cap. The new episodes will be shown starting on 18th March, 8 pm. FlashForward will return to UK screens on 22nd March,  9pm, on FIVE.

That’s very exciting and we’re all counting the minutes, but now for Jack Davenport’s thoughts on “American Idol”:

“I DON’T REALLY CARE, TO BE HONEST.

Suuure…
(Eh, we all have our guilty pleasures. “How clean is your House?” anybody…?)

Could somebody please offer Ant and Dec a job on American Idol? As in – a ten-year contract?

Just when you thought that all news was bad news, we get some good news:

FLASHFORWARD: SEASON ONE PT. 1 (Region 1)

is now available for purchase!

Region 1, that is. Woe is us, we Europeans have to wait until 27 September, 2010, for the Region 2 version, but hey – you can already

PRE-ORDER THE REGION 2 DVD!

You all know the plot (“Blackout! FlashForward! Chaos! Kangaroos! The Hobbit did it! No, Sparky did! Shakespeare?!?”), so I won’t repeat it here. When it comes to DVDs, the extras are of special importance and interest, and it looks like the FlashForward DVD has some interesting tidbits to offer. The 2-disc box set includes all 10 episodes from the first half of the season, and the following bonus material:

CREATING A CATASTROPHE: THE EFFECTS OF A GLOBAL BLACKOUT
Go behind-the-scenes of the pilot and discover what went in to creating FlashForward’s most iconic scene, the freeway disaster.  Through interviews with David S. Goyer and his production team we go on the set to see how destruction is developed and explosions are executed.

FLASHFORWARD: A LOOK AHEAD
Be the first to get a “FlashForward” with this exclusive look at the teaser to episode 111.

“COULD”
A look at the second half of FlashForward Season 1, narrated by Dominic Monaghan.

Sounds good? Very likely is! Check out the teaser clips:

… what’s new news then?

The random first:

FTP Prods submitted a special application for a film permit [for FlashForward] at 2828 Butler Ave., for filming scheduled to begin Feb. 16 and end Feb. 18.

City Councilman Alfredo Flores jokingly asked if there would be any autographed head shots provided for council members of some of the cast members. “I’m just kidding,” he said.

No joke is the recent news from the “FlashForward” front, though.

As if the hiatus for “Flash Forward” and the date-juggling over at ABC weren’t bad enough (at the moment, the series is supposed to continue on 18 March, 2010), we now have to learn that

CO-CREATOR DAVID GOYER IS STEPPING DOWN FROM HIS ROLE RUNNING THE SERIES,

though he’s quick to assure that

“I’m proud of the show and excited about the relaunch.  It’s in great hands.”

Ah. Well, the same was said about the US version of “Coupling”, and we all know how that turned out. I really want to believe in the success of FlashForward, despite this chaos. I also want to believe in unicorns.

I’ll keep my fingers crossed for Jack Davenport and everybody else involved with the show; maybe we’ll witness a miracle and “FlashForward” can recover. But so far, we have artificial hype and many online gizmos by the makers, yet not a strong, solid fanbase. There simply aren’t enough fans who really care. That sort of emotional investment into a show, vitally important for its success, can’t be bought. Why, yes, I’m disappointed.

On a more positive note,

HERE’S AN INTERVIEW WITH JACK DAVENPORT

And now for something completely different – rumours and gossip!

DON’T BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU READ ON WIKIPEDIA.

Anybody capable of starting a computer can edit entries. Information, be it on a person’s professional or private life, is only reliable when it comes from a reliable source. And as far as private information goes, it’s none of our business, anyway. Caveat lector!

JACK DAVENPORT ON FACEBOOK?

Yes, there’s a “Jack Davenport” on Facebook. (Or two. Maybe three.) The person running that facebook is clearly stating in her profile that she is not the “real” Jack Davenport, and that it’s a fan project. She’s not pretending to be somebody she’s not. Looks like innocent fun to me.

As you can tell from my usage of third person, it’s not me who is running the facebook in question, even if there’s a link to “Good Boy, Sparky”. I also don’t know who’s running it. Facebook is to me what garlic is to a vampire. Also, I’m a dog and am not allowed to have an account. So if you’re upset because you don’t like this fan project, don’t clutch your pearls in my mailbox. Any further complaints regarding this matter will be deleted and your address will be marked as spam.
