“Good Boy, Sparky!” went online on 24th April, 2008, and it will go offline on 1st January, 2015.  This will give you plenty of time to download anything you like. The reasons are due to my life becoming busier and more complicated, some health issues I don’t want to get into and as a consequence, fewer hours being at my free disposal. I had to set priorities, and unfortunately, it became obvious during the last months that it’s not possible for me to update the website in a reliable manner (which is the way I feel such a website should be updated). The website can’t be handed over to a new management without sharing my financial and personal information, hence I won’t do it.

In a nutshell:

  • http://www.goodboysparky.net will go the way of the dodo. The url will stay to annoy the spammers and redirect to this blog here.
  • This blog will stay, it would leave too many dead links all over the place if I deleted it. The email address will continue to work.
  • Twitter will be deleted, tumblr will stay.

So it’s “Good Bye, Sparky!” now, and thanks so much to all of you who commented, contributed, fanned and squeed through the years. Keep on the latter two, and don’t forget who Sparky really was. Woof.

The only “games” I have on my computer are the ones that are pre-installed, but the new trailer for the Lego video game of “Pirates of the Caribbean” looks like great fun. I might give into temptation and order it; my inner 12 year old would greatly approve!

Here’s the trailer:

And here’s what our dear Norrington will look like as a Lego figure:

Quite a dashing gentleman – brickleman? – if I may say so!

We’ll get to Jack Davenport’s whereabouts in a minute, but let me introduce a friend of mine first:

Frank the Poodle!

As you can tell, Frank’s a bad role model. Frank doesn’t care, though. Nor do I. So please, no emails about the dangers of smoking again, cheers. He’s not particularly interested in Jack Davenport (ok, let’s be honest, he had no idea who Jack Davenport is), supports the worst football team on this planet and there’s not one TV show we both like. But still, Frank’s a great mate and offered to jump in to help me out with “Good Boy, Sparky!”, and here’s why:

The recent lack of updates was partially due to Jack Davenport working on whatever he’s working that I don’t know of (and therefore can’t tell you anything about – does that make any sense?) and partially because I’ve been and still am a bit under the weather. Unfortunately, that won’t change any time soon, but I didn’t want to give up the website. I’m very happy that Frank offered to maintain the website for me; he’ll start updating the galleries next week. I’ll still be around though, no worries.

Cheers, Frank! Woof!

And now for the all-important question:

Well, there was the becoming-a-parent-bit. Kids keep one busy. And awake. And you have no idea how much cleaning-work is involved after feeding children pea soup or puréed spinach. So it’s  not unreasonable to assume he’s spent more time with the family.

There is no information about the movie project in France that Jack mentioned a while ago. Internet rumours claim that he’s actually been hidden away on the set of “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” instead and will have a cameo as a zombie-Norrington (Zombington?)  in the movie. I won’t deny that miracles can happen – after all, Damian O’Hare as Lt. Gillette will return as well (huzzah!) – but so far, there’s not one person, picture or source out there to confirm that anything about that rumour is true.

DEATH KNIGHT LOVE STORY is still in the works.

According to some users of Spotify, Jack Davenport is doing a voice-over for Alfa Romeo. That’s very nice, but I’ll stick to public transport.

If you’d like to enjoy Jack’s voice without added that special car-salesman-touch, I recommend you’ll listen to his latest audio book:

SUM: Tales from the Afterlife
by David Eagleman
(various episodes)

Or, if you prefer radio: BBC4 will repeat

by Haruki Murakami
read by Jack Davenport

tomorrow, 0.30am.

As for new releases:

FLASH FORWARD is now available on DVD!

And if you live in the UK, here’s some excellent news for you:

Starting on 7th September, 10.35pm, ITV1 will show all episodes of the series. Better late than never, eh?

What else… oh, yes. Jack Davenport and Michelle Gomez were guests at the wedding of Anna Paquin (whom I like a lot) and Steven Moyer (he worked with Jack in “Ultraviolet”). As far as I know, nobody was bitten. All the best to the newlyweds!

And last but not least – and not completely unrelated to weddings! – I have news from Ziko, the HeroRat sponsored by “Good Boy, Sparky!”:

“First, Mrs. Ziko and I are happy to announce the safe arrival of three new babies!  Can you imagine?! Triplets! (Truth be told, that’s pretty normal for us Giant African Pouched Rats, but its totally new to me!) The three of them are healthy and active little buggers always squirming around and begging for more milk!  Of course, we have already picked out their future professions: HeroRATs!”

Mrs. Ziko is a very busy new mum!

Three little HeroRattlings!

If you’d like to support the important work of HeroRats and/or learn more about the way they help clearing landmines and detecting contaminated water, please click on the “HeroRats” button in the navigation bar. Cheers!

Media fans are often very dedicated to their hobby, and many of them are amazingly creative. That’s a great thing, because it means we all get more mileage out of a movie or a TV show. And if you’ve ever suffered through “The Phantom Menace”, you’ve learned to appreciate the quality of fan movies.

Philippe Vergauwen is the name of one such fan, and he’s worked 1.5 years on the Lego-version of “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl” (the first half of the movie, that is). And while he skipped some key scenes, he did include all our favourite navy guys, so you can now all enjoy the Lego-version of Jack Davenport as James Norrington.

The Admiralty would probably not have approved of Mr. Norrington’s stubbles and moustache; see, that’s where Lt. Gillette could have been helpful, but he looks rather scruffy as well. And for unknown reasons, he’s joined the Royal Marines.

On his way to the Dauntless, Mr. Gillette has a mid-scene uniform change. Also, he grew a beard. Amazing!

Commodore Norrington and Lt. Groves watch the goings-on through the spyglass (which is… pretty huge…), and we note that Mr. Groves seems to be the only one in possession of a razor blade.

This fan movie is great fun, compliments to Philippe and thanks for sharing!

You can watch the videos on youtube:

Have fun!

is over, and our mailbox was flooded with mails from all over the planet, giving the correct answer:

In the “Pirates of the Caribbean” trilogy, Jack Davenport played James Norrington.

The winner was drawn this morning, and it is

The DVDs of “That Deadwood Feeling” and “A Christmas Story” as well as a lovely scented candle from L’Occitane and delicious chocolate are on their way to Canada.

Thanks a lot to everybody who participated in the contest, and also thanks for the many lovely comments about Jack and Flash Forward!

Many asked if Jack would be in the next “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie. Unfortunately, I don’t know more than you, folks. Sorry!

Jack Davenport’s presence would be about the only thing which might tempt me into buying a ticket for “PotC: On Stranger Tides”. And only if James Norrington was alive, shaved, washed, wearing the uniform of the Royal Navy and in the movie for more than two minutes. Nyah!

This will make at least partially up for the lamentable lack of promo pictures of Jack Davenport. Now if only this damned big pond wasn’t in the way… but those of you who go to this year’s Comic-Con have the chance to catch Jack Davenport on the Flash Forward panel!

I have neither been abducted by aliens nor has my dog mark been confiscated. But I’m currently very busy with different other things, and as the pilot for “Flash Forward” will air on ABC on 24 September, 8pm ET (which is in the far, far future), updates for “Good Boy, Sparky!” have been cut down to essentials for the moment. But no worries, I’ll be back soon, and I’ll bring screencaps!

Commodore James “Sparky” Norrington’s waistcoat sold for £ 420. Just thought you’d like to know.

Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears!

“Will Jack Davenport be the new Doctor Who?”

I’m very sorry, dear Whosians; I understand that you want to know, but I don’t have the foggiest. I don’t know it. I sort of kind of like the idea of Jack Davenport as Doctor Who, but I really can’t help you.  Please don’t send me further mails with inquiries. I’m just a pixel juggler; I don’t have a red phone on the desk with a direct line to Sparky Davenport or his agent. And if some person on some message board claims to know for certain who’ll be No. 11, said person is talking right out of the place where the sun never shines but the winds always blows.

Next item on the agenda of internet rumours:

“Will Norrington return in PotC4?”

Again: I have no idea. If there should be a fourth movie in the franchise (1- 3 made shiploads of money, so it’s likely), sky’s the limit. And who knows, maybe there will even be a script this time…
